Self-employment is a good and realistic option for many with a disability due to the good support available.  You can also still apply to Access to Work for support, like for disability equipment or a support worker to help or transport help if you are self-employed.  These links provided detailed information and many case study examples.

Department of Work & Pensions.  Starting Your Own Business.  A guide for disabled entrepreneurs.  It is a very detailed and useful guide for information and case studies.

Ki Kaleidoscope is an Investment Training Programme helping those with a disability with funding, mentors and skills for self-employed.

Scope Charity.  Self Employment Advice.  The Disability Charity offers detailed self-employment advice for those with disabilities.

The Princes Trust helps young disadvantaged people up to the age of 30 start a business.  Disability is one area they work with.

The Foundation for people with learning difficulties do lots of detailed information booklets, including an Easy Read option on self-employment as a work option.  These include looking at business ideas, business plans and self-assessment.  They also run as part of their In Business programme workshops.
